Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 2 hosted their monthly meeting on 25 September at 7pm at Panorama Primary School.

Sector 2 includes Allen’s Nek, Constania Kloof, Constania Park, Hillfox, Panorama, Randpark Ridge and Weltevreden Park.

Chairman of the Panorama Resident’s Association (RA) John Rosenburg chaired the meeting in which they discussed recent crime trends and stats.

Crime overview indicates that crimes in the sector were at their highest during the months of April and May, however they have decreased due to new techniques used by the Honeydew Police.

Colonel Terblanche from the Honeydew Police urged residents to be alert when entering and exiting their cars and homes.

Crimes of stolen vehicles or theft out of vehicles are on the increase with the use of jamming devices.

These devices jam the automatic locking system of car remotes– the owner then returns to find that there was no forced entry.

Fridays and Thursdays appear to be the days with the highest crime rates and peak between 12pm to 4pm and then again between 8pm to midnight.

Crime ‘hotspots’ trend around areas connecting from J G Strydom all the way to John Voster.

Col Terblanche also encouraged residents to get their domestic staff qualified training at meetings, such as Domestic Watch.

Kevin Thompson, CPF exco and chairman of Riverwell RA, explained the great need for residents of the area to join their particular RA as this aids in the dissemination of information and networking which will promote the vigilance of suspect activity in their areas.

“People living in complexes need to attend these meetings as police vehicles cannot patrol inside the complex,” says Neville Burnett SAPS Sector 2 chairman.
