Domestic worker helps to catch a suspect

A domestic worker saw a man breaking a window on 16 September at about 17.30pm in Ferndale.

When the domestic worker witnessed the man breaking into the premises next-door, she promptly called ADT security service.

Reaction Officer Peter Sikwe was dispatched and apprehended the burglar on the premises.

It was discovered that the suspect had gained access to the property by jumping over the fence and then broke a window to enter a cottage on the property.

The suspect was handed over to the Randburg Police.

”This incident just goes to prove once again how our domestic staff, when properly trained about what to do in an emergency, can act as an additional layer of security in our homes and neighbourhoods. I encourage all residents to equip their domestic staff with panic buttons and to also enrol them at their local Domestic Watch meetings,” says Clive Humphrey, managing director of ADT Central Region.

Domestic Watch is an initiative that offers training for domestic workers about safety and crime prevention. The programme is run by Penny Steyn, the founder of Making a Difference (MAD), and sponsored by ADT.
