Class of 1964 to reunite

LINDEN – Half a century later, these old matrics still love Linden Hoërskool.

Hoërskool Linden will be making history in October when the Matric Class of 1964 will be hosting a half-century reunion.

The school was first established as an English medium school. During 1951, it was re-constituted as an Afrikaans medium secondary school and has since become a landmark in Linden where it is situated on the corner of Third Avenue and Fifth Street.

Cor Dirks, headmaster in 1964, left an indelible impression on everyone who was schooled there during his tenure. In recognition of what the class learned there, they left the school with a lasting remembrance of them in the form of a mosaic representation of the school emblem, which is still displayed in the hall.

Many pupils who matriculated at Linden, fondly testify of the character formed in them as well as the ethos experienced and the esprit de corps which was established among them during their schooling there.

The class consisted of some 82 pupils and they have managed to track down and account for 55 of this number. Another 27 classmates still need to be found. A complete class photograph with names and other interesting photographs and information can be found on RandburgSun.co.za.

If you were a member of this class, or if you have, or had any association with the class of 1964 that may assist them to find pupils or teachers, or any information about them, kindly let the convener of the organising committee, Leon Theron know.

The reunion will be held on 18 October at the Hoërskool Linden lapa and will start at 6pm.
