Armed with kindness

BLAIRGOWRIE - Residents were robbed by friendly criminals.

Delta Park residents were victims of crime again. At about 8pm on 12 September an elderly couple who lives on the boarder of Delta park were robbed.

Three armed men broke down a small part of the wall and gained access to the house through the front door.

Mike and his wife Gen Nuines-Carvalho were tied up by the robbers who said, “We do not murder people or rape women.”

The robbers asked for jewelry and cash, later escaping with Mike’s family signet ring, Gen’s costume bracelets, R50 and a computer. Mike commented, “ADT arrived quickly and called the police who arrived shortly afterwards.”

He says, “The police did a stellar job finger- printing the entire household and creating an incredibly accurate identikit.”

It turns out that not only did the robbers explain their intentions at the start but later wrapped Gen in a blanket to ensure she was comfortable. During the scary time, Mike complained that his heart was hurting.

The polite robber escorted him to the kitchen where he poured Mike a glass of water to drink with a tablet and asked if he was alright. After about 30 minutes the robbers fled into Delta Park.

The couple have lived in the same area for over 50 years and do not want to move away, despite the high frequency of crimes. Delta Park covers a huge area and many residents and vagrants make use of the park’s facilities.

A member of the Blairgowrie Community Association commented, “Delta Park is also suffering from an increase in vagrants who are beginning to become more permanent” also that, “Patrols around the parks by police and security company could be a deterrent for criminals using the park as an escape route.”
