Shocking

WINDSOR EAST – Earth leakage on property causes electric shocks through plumbing, even though City Power cut electricity to complex some time ago.

Rob Golding chose Randburg as a place where he could retire happily, he wasn’t aware that City Power would prevent him from generating an income for himself.

Golding, who emigrated from England to Robin Hills after retiring nine years ago, bought a small townhouse complex in Windsor East which he rented out in order to supplement his income.

The power to the complex has subsequently been switched off and all the tenants have moved out.

In 2013, while the tenants were still residing there, they began to complain of receiving electrical shocks through the floors when they walk barefoot, when they open and close taps; and one resident even claimed that his was shocked so strongly that he was thrown backward by the electric current.

“For over a year the occupants of the three units that comprise our complex have been receiving electric shocks,” begins Golding. “We employed a private electrician who completely renewed the earth wiring at the complex, but this did not solve the problem. Eventually it was established that the fault lay with the cabling outside the properties and therefore was the responsibility of City Power.”

Ward 98 councillor, Laurette van Zijl, astutely took up the matter with City Power, but to date, the entity has put minimal effort into resolving the issue.

Awaiting comment from City Power.
