UPDATE: Accident in Fontainebleau

FONTAINEBLEAU – Tensions flared after driver accused accident victim of not indicating, witnesses say driver was reckless.

An accident that occurred between a minibus and a Hyundai Atos on 10 September, almost had the driver of the minibus lose his temper completely.

The driver of the Hyundai has asked not to be named.

Benjamin Matthews, the driver of the minibus, was transporting colleagues to work on Gertrude Street toward Republic Road, when the red Hyundai Atos allegedly turned in front of him from 1st Avenue and proceeded to stop in the road just after the intersection.

Matthews then attempted to swerve around, but the Hyundai driver did not see him as she began turning right into Fountain Kids Nursery school, where she is a teacher.

The minibus then collided with the Hyundai and both vehicles veered into the wall of the nursery school. The Hyundai driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Sandton Clinic where she has since been released.

“She did not indicate,” Matthews claimed adamantly.

But the damage to both the Hyundai and the nursery school also tells a slightly different story.

“For the damaged caused, the minibus must have been travelling at a serious speed,” said Community Support Services official, Athur Hendriks.

Owner of Fountain Kids Nursery School Frances Moco feels that the taxis and minibuses that travel through Fontainebleau to reach the main roads, are a law unto their own. “They drive like maniacs, into oncoming traffic and its pure recklessness.”

Comment from JMPD will be requested as soon as the entity has provided a case number for the accident.
