Douglasdale Sector 1 CPF meeting

OLIVEDALE – Community Policing Forum discusses crime at monthly meeting.

The Douglasdale Sector 1 Community Policing Forum (CPF) held their monthly meeting at the Olivedale Library on 8 September.

Constable Bernishia Subroyan noted that there has been a sharp rise in common street robberies, which seem to be taking place more often in the northern suburbs of Joburg, than ever before.

There were also five reported cases of armed robbery which took place in Sector 1 in the last month.

Subroyan was, however, please to state that no hi-jackings have been reported in recent weeks.

Theft out of motor vehicles continue to be a concern for Douglasdale Police though, as well as an increase in mall robberies.

“To combat these mall robberies, Douglasdale Police have increased police visibility around our shopping centers,” continued Subroyan.

“We have also committed to faster response times from our officers in these situations. Electrical shops are easy targets.”

She stated that investigations into these robberies will continue in order to assess whether it is a syndicate committing these crimes.

CPF chairperson Charmaine van Rijswijk also urged residents to be more vigilant and always remember to switch alarms on at all times.

“A lot of burglaries take place when residents forget to switch on their alarms when they leave their homes,” explained Van Rijswijk.

“If someone happens to be left at home, these burglaries can easily turn into aggravated robberies.”
