NORTH RIDING - Security upgraded at Northgate Mall.

Recent robbery attacks at various shopping malls have raised concerns about their security measures.

Last week, two shopping malls – Northgate Shopping Mall in North Riding and Maponya Mall in Soweto were attacked by armed robbers.

Cresta Shopping Centre had an armed robbery at their iStore and one person was shot during the incident on 14 August.

Shoppers appear to be concerned about their safety, especially in view of the upcoming Christmas shopping season.

Sandile Magadla, security personnel at Northgate Mall, re-assured the public that they are doing everything to ensure safety of their tenants.

“After the robbery attempt last Monday (1 September), we had a meeting where we agreed to increase our security measures. Our security techinical team Londoloza, has a 24/7 armed vehicle which is doing random patrols outside the mall. We have increased our security personnel at all entrances to the mall,” explained Magadla.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Lesetja Mothiba announced that national detectives have been appointed to investigate the recent spate of robbery incidents at different shopping malls around Gauteng.
