MNET responds to Big Brother fire

FERNDALE – Television entertainment group confirms that ‘Big Brother Hotshots’ will not begin as scheduled.

Local television entertainment group MNet, a division of Multichoice South Africa, has confirmed that the location of the anticipated Big Brother Africa series, burned down in a devastating fire on 2 September.

The entity has confirmed that no one was injured during the fire.

The new series, Big Brother Hotshots was scheduled to commence at Sesani Studios in Highlands North on 7 September, but will now be postponed until MNet affiliate production company, Endemol, can find a new premises for the show.

“The cause of the fire at this stage is unknown and investigations will continue as soon as it is safe to do so,” read the statement released by MNet.

“At this stage, M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an alternative Big Brother house in which to film the production, however, as this production has a highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements, an alternative is not immediately available.

The company reiterated that they will make every effort to find a solution as quick as possible so that the reality show will continue.

Production company Endemol declined to comment.
