Me and my Mutt dog show.

The underdogs were celebrated at Brightwater Commons.

Brightwater Commons played host to owners and their dogs on 30 August.

Extravagant Pets, in partnership with Fountainhead retail asset, held competitions for the furry friends.

The most popular categories included the best dressed, cute and ugly.

Among 41 entrants, Lola the Dachshund – sporting a ginger-like Mohawk – took the prize.

The cutest title went to Blue , a muscled young American pit bull.

Entrants included 32 public dogs and nine schooled canines.

Organisers this year opened the runway to the underdogs or mutts, shifting the focus from pure breeds and dachshunds unlike previous years.

“We wanted to give the ‘not so pure breed’ a chance to shine too, a decision I believe had an impact on the well supported turnout,” says Anne Hoffman from Extravagant Pets.

The Dog Training Academy presented displays, delighting onlookers with performances by nine of their student dogs proudly performing their acquired skills, including agility and obedience.

Heidi Oliver from The Dog Training Academy in Randburg and Florida congratulated organisers on the success of the event and the pet care awareness it creates.

“The event promotes the idea of grooming, taking good care and giving special attention, a primary need for any dog,“ she says.
