The man accused of stabbing his wife to death in Bryanston, appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 28 August.

The case has been postponed to 30 September for further investigation and also to allow the defendant to undergo a 30-day mental assessment before he would be allowed to plead his case in court. He will remain in custody until a medical institution can be found to facilitate his mental assessment.

The victim, whose name is known to the Randburg Sun, was found lying on a pavement in Peter Place in Bryanston on 16 August with approximately 50 stab wounds.

The suspect fled to Kwa-Zulu Natal, where he was later arrested in Pietermaritzburg on 19 August, Gauteng Provincial Police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng confirmed.

The 41-year-old accused apparently tried to commit suicide after stabbing his wife, by overdosing on an unknown substance before being arrested.

The State will continue its investigation in the mean time.
