False alert about fire in Boskruin

BOSKRUIN – Smoke rising from behind the wall of a clinic was caused by a generator that had not been turned on in a while.

In case you saw a great deal of smoke rising from behind the wall of Akeso Crescent Clinic, Boskruin, on 19 August, do not worry – there was no fire.

Electricity in the area went out at about 6am, and when the diesel-run generator was turned on, it initially produced a great deal of smoke.

This gave the illusion of a fire at the specialised psychiatric clinic during the morning.

Hospital manager at the clinic Fanie Smuts explained that the generator had not been turned on in a long time, and that was why it produced so much smoke.
