Nosi rocks the geology world

See a profile on a remarkable woman Nosi Nyamane carving out a pathway for women in the geology field.

Nosi Nyamane is carving the way for women geologists, with a BSc Honours degree in Geology from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU).

Nyamane is the chairman of the Diversity Forum and the strategic vision of the commercial research at Mintek. Mintek, a global leader in mineral and metallurgical innovation, has various programmes which are aimed at uplifting communities.

In facilitating the diversity forum, Nyamane is able to ensure the integration of women in a sector that is mostly male dominated.

Corporate services manager of Mintek Gugulethu Nyanda said, ”The diversity forum encourages the integration of all races, gender and culture.”

Nyamane is one of the few women who have joined the Working Group of Diamond Experts (WGDE).

This is a group that works with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, a team of experts implement tests to find the origins of precious stones and in doing so, can source any illegal diamonds.

Nyamane suggests, ”Women who are in this industry must have a strong character, believe in themselves and have the courage to persevere.”

She encourages young women to consider a career in geology as, “this would diversify the mining industry sector.”

Nyamane is a noble and incredibly humble woman.

She shows our society what the possibilities are when you have a resilient and hardworking attitude.
