Singing siblings of North Riding

NORTH RIDING – Anthony and Georgia Valaskatzis love singing, but do not practise with each other.

Anthony and Georgia Valaskatzis of North Riding are up-and-coming singing stars. They are also brother and sister. Anthony (11) started singing when he was three months old, his mother Colleen says, and has been the more successful of the two so far. He sang at the South African Talent Championship (Satch) last year where he received four gold medals and represented South Africa twice in Orlando, United States of America (USA), at the Shine Festival. He also sang at talent evenings and festivals at his previous school.

Georgia (9) also sang at the Satch last year and won four silver medals. Both took part in Jabulani Centre Stage in Pretoria last year and achieved high marks. Anthony’s favourite music is rap, and he wants to sing for the rest of his life. “I sing because I like it,” he says. He also plays guitar, and the classical music genre is his favourite on guitar. “I think he has a golden voice and is blessed with talent,” Colleen says. “I would like him to go further. Whenever he sings people say the stage belongs to him. He is alive on stage.”

Georgia plays the violin, and performed for her previous school’s violin ensemble. She says it inspires her that Anthony sings. The two have sung together at one show, but do not practise with each other. Pop is Georgia’s favourite music and she says that the best part of singing is when she “collects all the medals.” The pair are pupils at Curro Aurora, Sundowner.
