Porsche road rage case postponed

FERNDALE – Passenger of Porsche and road rage accused appears at Randburg Magistrate's Court.

FERNDALE – The road rage case involving a man who is charged with common assault and malicious damage to property for his actions during an incident on Witkoppen Road, Fourways, on 26 July has been postponed to 21 August for further investigation.

The man appeared at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for the first time on 30 July.

He faces charges involving an incident which was filmed by an onlooker and posted onto YouTube, a video that went viral.

In the video the man, who was the passenger of a Porsche, is seen standing between the stationary Porsche and a Volkswagen.

He kicks the Volkswagen ‘s driver’s side mirror until the driver winds down the window.

He then reaches both hands into the Volkswagen and struggles with the driver for a while, and pulls an object out of the Volkswagen and throws it away.

The driver later spoke to the media, saying these were the vehicle’s keys, and said he was punched in the face and opened the case.

He did not wished to be named for fear of being targeted.

A warrant for the man’s arrest was issued and he turned himself in to Douglasdale Police on 29 July, and was released on bail.

When appearing in court, he initially arrived late and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

He was also supposed to appeal the decision by 13 August or have his bail forfeited.

However, he arrived about 10 minutes later, and Magistrate Hanlie Banks cancelled the warrant.

As he left the court afterwards, he managed to evade a horde of journalists with their cameras and video cameras outside, by slipping through a gate to his vehicle parked in the staff parking.
