Bachelor with a big heart

LINDEN- Linden’s own Bachelor of the year finalist.

LINDEN – Being the most eligible bachelor in Johannesburg may cause hunks to show off their packs and send them running to prove themselves.

Linden resident Guy Saben (23) is a finalist in the SA Bachelor and Bachelorette of the Year competition.

Saben says, he believes he would make a good Bachelor of the Year, because he has the commitment and heart to make a difference and bring a sense of hope to the people he will be working with.

When a family friend was diagnosed with the ‘silent killer’, Saben understood the harsh reality of what cancer does as it claims its victims.

“Cancer has always been important, because people take it for granted until they, or someone they know, suffer from it,” he says.

“Nobody has to go through the worry and the pain that comes with this disease,” he adds.

“Competitions like these are so important… It gives me a voice, because I want to create unity and love through my work to motivate people about cancer and make a difference in the world,” he adds with enthusiasm.

“Being a contestant in this competition means I have the power to make fundraising fun, and I also have the ability to spread the word about cancer awareness.”

The SA Bachelor and Bachelorette of the Year competition was started in 2011 to find South Africa’s most eligible bachelor and bachelorette – someone who encompasses brains, beauty, entrepreneurship and the spirit of Ubuntu.

It is a competition where successful single candidates, who are not married or engaged and aged 20 years and older, can make a difference and create awareness through charity or community work.

Saben, who is a qualified sound engineer, admitted that he is not someone who usually enjoys being in the limelight, but he decided to enter the competition so that he couls use the platform to help raise awareness and funds for Cansa.

“I hope to work in radio and music to spread knowledge and information that is helpful to people,” he says.

He is passionate about music and said that his favourite musical era is the ’80s.

He explained that he would rather spend an evening at home with good friends, than go out partying.

The finals will be held in November at Silver Star Casino.
