The manager of an Olivedale restaurant was killed in an armed robbery on 26 July when six armed robbers stormed the shop and fled the scene with undisclosed items.

It is alleged that just before 9pm, the manager locked up the Wok Inn restaurant at the Olivedale Corner Shopping Centre, when the armed men approached and forced him and his mother into the Pizza Perfect takeaway next door.

They shot the manager at close proximity in the chest and in the abdomen.

A staff member from Pizza Perfect was pistol whipped on the head and taken to Olivedale Clinic afterwards. Another staff member was hit and thrown to the ground, while a third was dragged by her ponytail.

EMER-G-MED paramedics arrived on scene within minutes of the shooting, but the Wok Inn shop manager had already died from his injuries at the time.

Police officers from Douglasdale and Honeydew police stations, as well as various security companies all attended to the scene.

“A case of murder and armed robbery has been opened and the investigation is at a sensitive stage and still ongoing,” stated Douglasdale Police spokesperson, Balan Muthan. “We urge members of the community who saw anything suspicious in the area that night, to contact us or report it at their nearest police station.”
