Crime update for Honeydew Sector 1

BOSKRUIN – theft of, and out of, motor vehicles, drugs and vagrants are still concerns for residents in Honeydew Sector 1.

BOSKRUIN – House robberies have decreased since last month while theft of motors, and theft out of motor vehicles are still high in Honeydew Sector 1.

This is what residents were told at a Honeydew Sector 1 Community Policing Forum meeting at The Barn Christian Fellowship, Boskruin, on 14 July, where the sector’s police, Community Policing Forum, security companies, residents’ associations and general public discussed crime in the sector, and the ways it can be challenged.

“People must please not leave valuables in the vehicle in sight,” said the head of visible policing for Honeydew Police, Colonel Tobie Terblanche.

“Rather put them in the boot.”

He explained that when residents go to the shops or the gym they should leave their valuables at home rather than in the boot, because criminals use vehicle jammers to access vehicles at these locations.

Terblanche and the forum’s chairperson, Greg Pearce, added that it was not safe to park vehicles on the pavement or road verges.

Honeydew Sector 1 manager Warrant Officer Gabriel Nonyane informed residents that greenbelt operations were in effect, three drug dealers had been arrested on the corner of President Fouché Road and Malibongwe Drive and vagrants were still stealing from residents in the sector.

Pearce and Terblanche said that if residents witness drug deals, they should also try find out where the drugs are hidden as that would help the police make arrests.

Randpark Ridge saw eight house-breakings since the last forum meeting on 9 June, and Pearce suspected most were caused by one man.

It was also said that drug dealing was not quite as frequent in Golden Harvest Park  as it was before.

Areas in Honeydew Sector 1 include Boskruin, Bromhof, Bush Hill Estate Agricultural Holdings (AH), Glen Dayson AH, Hunter’s Hill AH, Kelly Ridge, Northhgate, North Riding AH, Northwold, Randpark Ridge, Sonneglans, Strijdom Park and Sundowner.
