FERNDALE – The Council of Mineral Technology (Mintek) donated much-needed items to the Community Provision and Social Services (Compass), in Edenvale, on Mandela Day, 18 July.

Three bakkies of groceries, mops, buckets, clothes, blankets, other essentials and toys were given away.

“Ever since November 2009, Mintek has taken an active involvement in supporting this remarkable initiative,” said head of communications for Mintek Dr Jessie Pillay.

“As Mintek, we will continue to do our bit it in ensuring the National Development Plan 2030 becomes a reality.”

After the children finished their lunch, Mintek handed out gifts to each child, took photos with them and played with them.

“Compass has been going through a rough patch financially and now with the help of Mintek, we can provide our kids with a healthy meal for many weeks to follow,” said Compass project director, Shawn Francis.

“It was the most beautiful, priceless sight to see our kids at Compass all so happy and all the balls bouncing and been thrown about that at times it felt timeless. We would like to thank Mintek for all their hard dedicated work.”
