Although it was fantastic to see how many people took part in the 67 minutes initiative for Mandela Day, 18 July, it also pays to remember those who devote every working day to their communities.
Randburg SPCA inspectors Benjamin Sithole, Debbie Kegel and Jessica Long took to the streets of Diepsloot with animal activist Irene McKenzie Fraser to hand out dog and cat food, parasite control and find animals in need.
These visits to the informal settlements happen regularly, and have saved countless animal lives. The Randburg SPCA staff members work tirelessly to defend the rights and welfare of animals – day in and day out.
Another fun and inspiring way to spend Mandela Day with other animal lovers took place at the Ann Harding Cheshire Home for the physically disabled in Northwold.
Sue Green brought her amazing Joy Dogs to visit the residents of the home, much to their delight. Jazmine, Oscar and Yola put big smiles on the residents’ faces, and even got to lick a cheek or two while going around and sharing hugs with everyone.
