Aged appreciated on Mandela Day

BLAIRGOWRIE – Pupils write letters of appreciation to their elders.

BLAIRGOWRIE – To Educate Academic (TEA) pupils from Blairgowrie addressed letters to the elderly in The Randburg Village – Methodist Home for the Aged in Bordeaux for 67 minutes on Mandela Day, 18 July.

This being the first Mandela Day celebrated without the former South Africa president, the pupils decided that the elderly would be the right group of people to celebrate– particularly those who are feeling dispirited or unappreciated.

In their letters, the students discussed their own lives briefly and why the elderly are so important to the youth, the country and the world.

All the letters, a sunny bunch of sunflowers, and a handmade poster full of cheer were delivered to the residents on Friday.
