Food voucher for the homeless launched

RANDBURG- Johannesburg Organisation of Services to the homeless (Josh) launched its first voucher scheme at the Randburg Methodist Church on Mandela Day.

RANDBURG – Mandela Day is celebrated throughout the country and Randburg and surrounds did they part in honouring Madiba’s spirit.

Mary Gillett- de Klerk, founder of the Johannesburg Organisation of Services to the Homeless (Josh), launched the first phase of the voucher scheme at the Randburg Methodist Church, on the Mandela Day.

Mike Wood, Ward 104 Councillor bought the first voucher, which entitles the homeless person, a warm meal, counselling and skills training programme.

“The vouchers will then be sold in the area to the general public to buy and then give a voucher to a person begging on the streets instead of giving cash. The person then takes the voucher to the participating soup kitchen where a Josh trained counsellor will start the process of assisting them begin the process of moving off the streets,” explains Gillett-de Klerk.

One of the homeless people Arthur Mbeye said ” the soup kitchen held at the Randburg Methodist Church, help to have energy so that I can go and look for work.”
