‘Unroadworthy’ vehicle causes accident

HONEYDEW - Three people sustained injuries after a vehicle skips a red traffic light and crashes into another car.

One man was critically injured when his vehicle collided with another one on the corner of Juice Street and Beyers Naudé Drive in Honeydew on Friday morning, 11 July.

VitalMed paramedic Siobhan Nicholls says the male driver suffered a fractured arm.

The two occupants of the other vehicle also sustained minor injuries and they were all transported to Helen Joseph for further medical care.

According to an eye witnesses on the scene, a bakkie that was travelling on Beyers Naudé from Zandspruit’s direction, skipped a red traffic light and crashed into the vehicle that was travelling from Juice and turning right onto Beyers Naudé Drive.

“The traffic light had just turned red and the bakkie just drove past, crashing into this vehicle which was the first one to go through,” explained Fanie Phiri, who was on the scene when the accident occurred.

On arrival at the scene, the bakkie that is alleged to have been driven over a red traffic seemed to have no licence disk.

“Apparently, the vehicle is not even roadworthy,” added another eyewitness Mpho Khumalo. Metro Police who were at the scene were not prepared to give out any information about the accident or any of the two vehicles.
