Traders targeted on Day 3 of Zandspruit evictions

JOBURG - Metro Police officers meant business as they targeted illegal traders this morning, following Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s evictions of residents who occupied private land illegally.

Three days into the Zandspruit eviction operation and there is still a heavy presence of Metro Police in the township.

Metro Police officers meant business as they targeted illegal traders this morning, following Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s evictions of residents who occupied private land illegally.

“Three weeks ago people in that area were given notice to vacate the illegal shacks,” the entity’s spokesperson Wayne Minaar said

“Metro Police officers have removed 14 illegal trading shacks,”  he confirmed.

Economic Freedom Fighters members have also been present at the scene since the evictions started, offering support to the evicted residents.

This morning the party tweeted, “EFF still encourage (sic) residents in honeydew and Zandspruit to open cases of malicious damage to property and assault with SAPS”.

Metro Police have since left the scene.
