Dozens evicted from their home without an eviction notice

HONEYDEW – ‘Red Ants’ remove cars, furniture and other belongings onto sidewalks in mass eviction.

Honeydew and Zandspruit was a hub of activity on 8 July as mass evictions took place across the suburbs.

An entire army of ‘Red Ants’ from Tactical Response Services (TRS), went to townhouse complexes in the area and forcefully evicted tenants who have been renting the townhouses from Jika Properties.

Jika Properties, a property investment and development company based in Braamfontein, is currently embroiled in a court battle due to being charged with property fraud and corruption of the properties said to be owned by Standard Bank, but this is yet to be confirmed.

Those being evicted said that they received no notices of the evictions or any kind of prior warning. One evictee said that she was still in bed when her door was broken down by the tactical team.

Dozens of residents stood and watched helplessly as their belongings were piled up on the sidewalk on Glover Road. The ‘red ants’ even removed vehicles by force, whereby 20 odd men lifted and shimmied vehicles into the veld opposite the complex.

Updates to follow.
