We can see clearly now

NORTHCLIFF – 43 patients can now see clearer thanks to hospital staff and Randburg Square.

Sometimes, there are businesses that look beyond compulsory corporate social investment projects and see the bigger picture of how their actions impact the community as a whole.

And these businesses then make it their business to do more for their communities.

In the greater Joburg North West area, two prime examples of such businesses are the Johannesburg Eye Hospital and Randburg’s very own, Randburg Square.

The two companies recently came together to work on a phenomenal project which allowed 43 pre-selected patients the opportunity to have their eye sights fully restored through corrective eye surgery.

Surgery which all of the patients had no other means to afford, was made possible through the contributors, Randburg Square.

On 21 June, Dr Peter Ambrose (who is also a Northcliff resident) and his team of eight other ophthalmologists at the Johannesburg Eye Hospital, set out to complete the colossal task of completing all these surgeries in one day.

Most of the surgeries focused on removing severe cataracts from the lens of the eye and replacing these lenses with artificial acrylic lenses.

The hospital’s manager, Marianne Bosman, was elated with the results of the project. “It was a huge success for us,” said Bosman, “and also a great team-building exercise for the staff who donated their time and expertise for the day.”

Bosman continued to say that all the patients were extremely happy with the prospect of being able to see properly again, and utterly grateful for receiving the surgeries.

Randburg Square, which is owned by Vukile Property Fund Ltd and managed on their behalf by JHI, was very excited about the project.

“We feel privileged to bring some colour to the lives of people who do not have the means to witness the beautiful colour around us,” said Simone Homan, portfolio manager of JHI.

“It went hand in hand with the ‘Full Colour’ living theme we strived for at Randburg Square when we undertook the refurbishment of the mall. We could only have done it with the support of the owners of Randburg Square, Vukile Property Fund, Randburg City Improvement District and the management and excellent staff of the Johannesburg Eye Hospital.”
