Lotto funds new vehicle for orphanage

BLAIRGOWRIE - The national lottery gave back to the Barkston Place Orphanage supplying them with a new vehicle to help transport the children.

Barkston Place in Blairgowrie received a brand new vehicle with the help of the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund.

Chairperson and co-founder of the orphanage, Mark Knocker said they had needed a new vehicle to transport the children for a while, before they thought of applying to the National Lottery.

“The vehicle we had then was not in the best condition and did not have all the safety equipment,” said Knocker.

According to a statement released by the lottery trust fund, they wanted to make a difference to the lives of all South Africans, especially those more vulnerable, and improve the sustainability of the beneficiary organisations.

Available funds are distributed to registered and qualifying non-profit organisations and other charities, arts, culture and national heritage, and sport and recreation organisations.

The orphanage had to apply to the National Lottery and it took months before they could finally get help.

“We are extremely grateful to the lottery trust fund for the vehicle. They cover all the expenses including car insurance, driver’s salary and car services.”

He said the orphanage has six children who stay with the house-mother and it is also responsible for the school fees of nine children under its care.

“There is a limited number of children who stay with us as we have to limit the financial expenditure. We welcome members of the public who can help us were they can,” concludes Knocker.
