Favourites win on day 19 of world cup – residents comment

Argentina and Belgium beat Switzerland and USA – residents comment on match while argue about supporting African teams.

The stronger Argentina and Belgium sides beat Switzerland and USA in the last round of 16 matches on day 19 of the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil, 01 July.

Residents commented on the matches (see below).

Argentina and Belgium will now play each other in a quarter-final on 05 July.

First Argentina beat Switzerland 1–0 thanks to a Di Maria goal deep into extra time.

In the 118th minute, two minutes before penalties, Lionel Messi, four times Fifa world player of the year, dribbled through the Swiss defence and slid the ball to Di Maria, who wasted no time in shooting into the left of the goal with his first touch.

A minute later Dzemaili almost equalised for the Swiss, heading the ball into the post and watching helplessly as the ball rebounded back into his leg and bounced out of play.

Belgium then dominated the United States of America (USA), but could only score twice in in extra time to win 2–1.

De Bruyne first scored for Belgium, dribbling around two defenders and shooting in from a tight angle in the 93rd minute.

Lukaku doubled the lead for Belgium, finishing well from De Bruyne’s pass in the 105th minute.

Green scored a goal for USA, a fantastic volley from a lob-pass in the 107th minute.

RS27NZfav - Day 19 Supporting Africa argument

Spokesperson for Randburg Football Club Marlon Abrahams said that in his personal view Argentina is the second most likely team to win the world cup.

He cited Argentina’s geographical proximity to Brazil, them being Brazil’s traditional rivals and the Messi factor as reasons for this.
