Brazilian Soccer Schools come to Randburg
RANDBURG – Future footballers taught how to play the game.
The recently launched Brazilian Soccer Schools (BSS) Randburg hosted a fun day of Futbol de Soleil (FDS) soccer games against its sister centre from Dainfern and local community players at the Randburg Sports Complex on 28 June.
Players and prospective football stars as young as three years old donned their soccer shirts and boots so that they can be trained in the ways and rules of soccer and play friendly, short matches against one another.
“The aim of the FDS games is for the children to practise the skills and techniques learned at their practice sessions,” said BSS coach, Mike Hughes. “BSS Randburg offers training sessions throughout the year on Mondays to Saturdays, and it’s open to girls and boys aged between four and 16.”
BSS Randburg is a not a ‘club’, but rather a soccer school focusing on equipping young children with the skills and technical ability required to play soccer.
“Our focus is on the individual and improving ball manipulation and control,” continues Hughes, “which in turn builds confidence on the field. In an average BSS training session a player will get to touch the ball over a 1 000 times versus possibly only a 100 times in a conventional training environment.”
A benefit of the BSS programme is that they constantly cross the midline and work on the core muscles maximising both fine and gross motor skills.
“All children are welcome,” Hughes concluded. “Both club and non-club players who wish to develop their soccer skills and maximise their potential. BSS complements the training offered at clubs and has had remarkable results with players attending our centre.”
