Murder case postponed once again

ROODEPOORT – Murder accused Meekahaefele Masooa will only stand for trial on 21 August.

The case against Meekahaefele Masooa, the man accused of shooting and killing 39-year-old Douglas Pearce in an apparent road rage altercation on 14 February, has been postponed once again by Magistrate Denise Smith at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.

This is the second postponement of the case.

At his bail application on 17 February, Masooa pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and was released on R5 000 bail due to not being considered a flight risk. The case was supposed to resume on 25 April, but was postponed to 26 June for further investigation. On the day, it was postponed once again to 21 August.

Masooa, a prominent businessman from Centurion who is married with four daughters, maintains that he acted in self-defence.

As he left the court room, he even blew kisses at the press photographers.
