President Zuma up for sale on Gumtree

JOBURG - President Jacob Zuma was put up for sale on Gumtree on 19 June.

Gumtree has become a platform for people to voice their opinions about the current state of government by “selling” President Jacob Zuma.

The Star newspaper reported that President Jacob Zuma was put up for sale on the famous classified website Gumtree on 19 June but the ad disappeared soon afterwards.

The advert was posted by user name Average Joe who put a price tag that said negotiable.

The message which accompanied the picture stated that “Desperately in need of a functioning president. This one costs too much to maintain, will take what we can get at the moment, just make an offer”.

The advert mentioned that the seller was willing to “swap for smarter/cheaper model” but would not entertain offers from chancers – “only bar-code ID or TAX payers please”.

Last month the “South African taxpayer” put the President’s Nkandla homestead up for sale on Gumtree for R246 million.

The sale price is the same amount Public Protector Thuli Madonsela estimated to have been spent on upgrades to the president’s home, in her Nkandla report.

Gumtree spokeswoman Estelle Nigel reportedly told www.mybroadband.co.za that you can buy or sell possibly anything online but you cannot buy or sell humans.

She told the publication that they encourage users to only upload advertisements that offer legitimate goods and services.
