The Cosmo City Festival Expo, sponsored by the City of Joburg and BUCO Hardware, took place from 14 to 16 June.

“The aim of the festival was to celebrate the growth and achievements of this vibrant community of Johannesburg which has more than 200 000 residents. We also wanted to raise funds for the local schools and raise awareness of the new City Multipurpose Complex,” explained one of the organisers André Pietersen.
According to Pietersen, the community benefited from the youth programme which offered career advice, educational institutions, promoted and encouraged local talent through the soccer and netball tournament, as well as performances by local talent.
“Cosmo City Small Business Enterprises were able to market and sell their products and services to visitors. A portion of the proceeds of ticket sales went toward the local participating schools.”
Lebogang Ramatlo, head coach of Shining Stars, a local netball team, said she was happy to have her young females take part in the sports action. She wished that more businesses and government institutions would invest in Cosmo City’s youth.
