Johannesburg Water has not yet been able to give reasons for a burst water pipe next to Beyers Naudé Drive, Randpark Ridge, which occurred a week after – and not far away from – a larger burst allegedly caused by theft of equipment.
The entity’s spokesperson Millicent Kabwe claimed that the first pipe burst on the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Jim Fouché Road on 4 June was due to a stolen air valve.
However, she could not yet give any reason for the second burst between Dale Lace and Eastwood avenues on 10 June.
“I will have to check if this is the same pipeline that was damaged by the burst [on 4 June],” she said.
Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin also could not account for the bursts.
