Crime hotspot warning on intersection of Republic and Jan Smuts

RANDBURG - The Hurlingham Manor North Residents Association security team and community policing forum took to the streets for a crime hotspots campaign.

Randburg Sector 1 Community Policing Forum (CPF) held an awareness campaign on 10 June on the corner of Republic Road and Jan Smuts Avenue.

The purpose of the campaign was to warn motorists about crime in the area.

CPF members and a few of Randburg Police staff were present and gave motorist pamphlets with information about their sector vehicles’ contact number and tips to use on the road.

“The corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Republic Road is a hotspot for criminals. They take valuable items out of people’s cars and hi-jack them while they are waiting for traffic lights to open. We want drivers to be aware of the dangers they can encounter at traffic lights,” said Stacey Roberts, head of security of Hurlingham Manor North Resident’s Association.

Randburg Police spokesperson Constable Johannes Maja, said Randburg Police Sector 1 includes Hurlingham Manor North, it was thus important that Randburg Police Station fully supported the awareness campaign. “We wanted to alert drivers to keep their windows closed while in traffic, to keep their valuables out of sight when in the car and to not open windows for strangers,” advised Maja.
