Spruit clean-up brings community together

BORDEAUX SOUTH - Residents in ward 102 took part in the Spruit day clean up.

Bordeaux South residents took part in the Spruit Day clean-up on 7 June.

The clean-up process included areas such as Westdene, Craighall Park, Victory Park, Emmarentia Dam, Blairgowrie and Bordeaux South among others.

Braamfontein Trust chairman Tim Cartwright said, “The spruit flows northwards and is joined by the Montgomery and Westdene spruits below Emmarentia Dam. Together they join the Jukskei at Leeuwkop. Ultimately, it is the source of the Limpopo River. The river flows through areas including Craighall and Bordeaux.”

According to Cartwright, the Braamfontein Spruit is used by hikers, dog walkers, cyclists, bird watches, commuters and many others on a daily basis.

Elinor Bodinger, Bordeaux South Resident’s Association chairperson said, “I don’t want to take all the credit as this was not organised by me but by the resident’s association committee members. I think this was a great way of bringing the community together.”
