Repair of water leak delayed by City’s budget

FONTAINEBLEAU - Joburg Roads said they will address residential matters in their new financial year beginning in July.

After a year, Fontainebleau resident Ros Grimshaw is at his wits end due to City of Joburg’s lack of response to his complaint about a water leak on Elise Road, which is draining into his property.

“A blocked storm water drain turnaround period is supposed to be three days. I have had this problem for a year and am concerned about the damage the water is doing to my property,” said Grimshaw.

In response to the complaint Joburg Roads Agency Bertha Peters-Scheepers said, “Unfortunately, the issue is not a blocked storm water drain. It is a kerb inlet which, at this stage, does not have pipes linking it to the main storm water drainage system. Had this been a blocked storm water drain the turnaround time would have been three working days.”

Peters-Scheepers stated that it is a Capex project, which means it falls under the 2014 and 2015 financial year of projects prioritised by the Joburg Roads Agency. “Our new financial year begins on 1 July. We will communicate exact time frames for the project, and apologise for the inconvenience caused to the community in the interim.”
