Hijacker arrested after car chase on highway

RANDBURG - Police arrested a car thief on the corner of Malibongwe and President Fouché drives.

Linden police arrested a hijacker on the corner of Malibongwe and President Fouché drives on 30 May, following a high speed car chase on the N1 North highway.

According to Linden Neighbourhood Watch chairman Fareed Hoosen, the white Lexus was hijacked in Pretoria earlier that day. “The K9 unit chased it through Midrand and Woodmead,” stated Hoosen.

Hoosen reported that the vehicle was later caught in traffic on Malibongwe Drive heading toward Zandspruit. The airwing and flying squad intercepted the vehicle. “The suspect who was arrested fled the hijacked vehicle and attempted to hijack another vehicle. The lead vehicle drove off and escaped,” he added.

Linden police spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu said, “There allegedly was a house robbery in Douglasdale where an unknown number of suspects stole a white Lexus and fled the scene. Vehicle description was circulated after police were informed. A high speed chase ensued on the N1 North, and at the corner of Malibongwe and President Fouché drives in Randburg a suspect was arrested after he had jumped out of the stolen vehicle. He was apprehended with the assistance of the chopper.”

Honeydew police spokesperson Karen Jacobs was unavailable for comment.
