Car jammers caught red-handed

FERNDALE – Two suspects found with car jamming devices to appear in Randburg Magistrates' Court.

Two suspects – aged between 37 and 39 – will soon appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of being in possession of car jamming equipment.

Randburg police spokesperson Johannes Maja explained that on the morning of 28 May, police received a tip-off about the suspects.

It was alleged that the suspects were waiting to strike at any unsuspecting motorists who lock their vehicles, using remote controls without testing their doors, before leaving for their daily activities in the Randburg central business district (CBD), Ferndale.

Maja said that the police acted immediately on the tip off and arrested two suspects who were found in possession of a gate remote control, jamming machine plugged into the cigarette lighter, different number plates and other breaking equipment.

Randburg police are still investigating to determine if the suspects are not connected to other crimes around the area.
