He does what he loves best

RANDBURG - 12-year old Karabo Oberem plays the famous Pinocchio in Peoples Theatre production of My Son Pinocchio.

Karabo Oberem also known as Pinocchio [in the theatrical production of My Son Pinocchio], is a 12-year-old Randburg resident who is living his ultimate acting dream.

Oberem has been working as an actor in theatre for three years and states that he has enjoyed every moment of being on stage doing what he loves best. “From an early age I have always wanted to be an actor. When I heard that the theatre was holding auditions for new actors,I immediately wanted to take part,” said Oberem.

Juggling school and work at his age is often difficult, but Oberem says it is his passion for acting that helps him balance things. “We have rehearsals every day after school. I only work twice a week in the morning. This gives me a chance to catch up with the work I get at school.”

At school Oberem loves to participate in cricket and soccer but always puts his acting career first. He advises anyone who wishes to get into the industry to be focused, confident, love what they do and remember their lines.

Acting is a craft Oberem hopes to grow with and states that once he has completed his matric, he would like to further his studies in acting, directing and playwriting. “I enjoy being what I do and would like to do more theatre production, television shows and acting jobs in the future.”

The Disney production of My Son Pinocchio is currently showing at The Peoples Theatre until the end of July.
