BRYANSTON – Vehicle transporting cigarettes hijacked. Suspects arrested.

A vehicle transporting cigarettes was allegedly hijacked in Bryanston.

Two suspects were apprehended by Randburg police, and appeared at Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 19 May, facing charges of hijacking. Bail was denied and police are still investigating.

It is alleged that at about 12.40pm on 15 May the complainant was delivering cigarettes in a vehicle at a retailer in Bryanston, when he was approached by one of the two suspects while reversing.

Two suspects aged 26 and 27 respectively –one pointing a gun at the complainant –pushed him into the middle of the vehicle and drove around the area, until they offloaded the cigarettes into their own vehicle.

When the complaint was made to the police, the tracing team immediately took up the investigation and arrested the two suspects in different residential areas.

The transport vehicle was recovered with an undisclosed amount of cash.
