An appeal has been made to residents to join the fight against drugs, illegal subletting in City of Johannesburg-owned houses and muggings in Golden Harvest Park.
Friends of Golden Harvest Park Secretary Sandy Frost said the group is negotiating with City Parks to find ways to resolve these issues in the park, and she asked residents to join the group, as the more members it has, the more influence it will have in its dealings with the entity.
Friends of Golden Harvest Park represents complexes and private houses in the area, whose inhabitants are regular users of the park.
“I ask people to join the friends [of Golden Harvest Park] to turn things around here,” she said.
“The more members we have, the more influence we will have with City Parks. We would be taken more seriously [when negotiating].”
Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau said that he, the Friends of Golden Harvest Park and the Johannesburg Property Company have been meeting to discuss ways that the illegal subletting problem could be solved.
The property company’s spokesperson Brian Mahlangu has still not responded to questions sent to him on 4 April about the illegal subletting of houses in the park.
Honeydew police’s Warrant Officer Gabriel Nonyane said the fight against drugs in the park is ongoing, and Honeydew police officers still frequently patrol the park.
