Parties called to remove election posters

JOBURG - Now that the elections fever is under the carpet, the City Of Johannesburg urged political parties to remove election posters from the street lights posts.

The City of Joburg has urged political parties to remove election campaign posters on street light poles.

Mayoral spokesperson Fred Mokoko congratulated all the political parties for participating in the fifth democratic national and provincial elections held on 7 May.

He said, “The city also congratulates its residents and all South Africans, as well as the first-time voting generation, for coming out in their numbers and voting in this important democratic process.”

He added that according to city bybaws, political parties were given a seven-day grace period to remove all posters.

However, he said the city council was yet to pronounce a final deadline for the removal of all election campaign posters.

Makoko said, “Now that the elections and campaigning are over, the city humbly requests all political parties to start removing all campaign posters.

“We encourage all political parties to co-operate with the city’s request and begin removing election posters as soon as possible and assist to create a safe, clean environment that they can be proud of and in which residents can live and work.”
