Budding friendship in Trinityhouse sensory garden

RANDPARK RIDGE – A look at how a local school's garden contributes to young children's social development.

Trinityhouse Pre-Primary Randpark Ridge pupils Rachael Maritz and Joshua Mascall enjoy spending time in the sensory garden.

They are in Grade 00 and have become very good friends.

“At Trinityhouse Pre-Primary we are very privileged to have a sensory garden that contributes to the emotional and physical development of our little ones,” said principal Lorraine Ruddy.

“It is a beautiful place to interact, reflect and contemplate. Our four- to five-year-old children become more socially aware and they start developing the skills to problem solve as well as negotiate. They also learn to relate happily with other children, to take turns, follow rules and to treat others with respect.”

She added that the social development of young children is significant because it affects their total development.

A sensory garden is a garden that stimulates learning and the senses with its design, plants and features.
