A confrontation between ADT and three armed criminals was followed by an apprehension after a break-in in Randpark Ridge.

ADT responded to an alarm at premises in Asgaai Avenue on 11 May. When reaction officer Simon Motsisi stopped outside, he saw a grey Tata bakkie parked in front of the gate with two suspects seated inside.

When he approached the bakkie, the driver of the vehicle pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him.

Motsisi then drew his firearm and fired a shot at the driver that is believed to have wounded him.

A third suspect then exited the premises and approached Motsisi. Motsisi fired another round and wounded him as well.

The driver then managed to start the vehicle and drive away. The third suspect ran after the bakkie, but collapsed in Appiesdoring Street where Motsisi apprehended him.

He was treated and transported to hospital under police guard. ADT recovered some of the stolen items which the suspects dropped as they tried to get away.

According to police, this trio is linked to several other burglaries in the area over the weekend. Clive Humphrey, managing director of ADT Central Region, applauded Motsisi for his bravery in the face of attack.

“Thanks to our prompt response time the suspects were caught in the act and the officer managed to apprehend one of the suspects. Clients are advised to arm their alarms whenever they leave home and when they go to bed, and to secure their gates, doors and security doors at all times.
