Charity spinathon raises money for autism

LITTLE FALLS - Spinathon raises R20 000 for the Faery Glen School for pupils with autism.

Real estate company Keller Williams Sync hosted a Spinathon at Little Falls’ Virgin Active to raise funds for an organisation called AuSOMEtism and the Faery Glen School in Randburg on 3 May.

AuSOMEtism spokesperson Shaun Murphy explained that they are a non-profit organisation that raises awareness and funds for autism and the Faery Glen School plays a big part in the lives of children with autism.

“Autism is a lifelong, complex condition that occurs as a result of disordered brain growth, structure and development. It is believed to stem from a genetic predisposition triggered by environmental factors and affects four to five times more boys than girls.”

He added, “We wanted to give something in return for the school for all the hard work and dedication that they put into educating children with autism.

“In conjunction with the staff at Keller Williams Sync we decided to use the R20 000 which they raised at the Spinathon toward the rejuvenation of the Faery Glen School.”

The team at Keller Williams Sync held its first inaugural Red Day on 8 May, which is the company’s global day of giving back to their local community. During this day they tackled all the problems at the school.

“They endured a long, arduous day dedicated to painting the exterior of the school’s building as well as creating a gymnasium facility for the children, fully kitted with spinning bikes, walkers, a punching bag, basket ball hoop and mobile gym equipment.”

Claire Fauchet, one of the associates at Keller Williams Sync said, “We want to thank our associates for their hard work and efforts as well as their corporate sponsors and donors who made a huge contribution to the day.

“The team is looking forward to many more years of successful Red Days.”
