Annual fun run set

DOUGLASDALE - The Sector 1 Community Policing Forum spokesperson urges residents to register for the Fun Run Race.

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum in conjunction with the Douglasdale police will be introducing the annual Fun Run Race which will take place in September.

“We have been doing the race for the past four years. It has become a great way for the community to interact with the police and helps our police to keep fit.

”Those who take part are welcome to do a 5km to 10km walk or run,” said Douglasdale Sector 1 Community Policing Forum chairperson, Margaret Van Zwieten.

According to van Zwieten, 350 residents participated in last year’s Fun Run.

“We urge more residents to take part this year. It’s a great way to meet new people and [get to] know your neighbours.

”The community had come together to make it a success and it will hopefully be the same this year.”

The Fun Run has Doug, a teddy bear as mascot for the race.

“Whoever wins the race gets to keep Doug for the year. In April last year the community won the race and we got to keep him.

”We have now handed Doug over to the Douglasdale police. They will be keeping him safe till the race on 14 September,” explained van Zwieten.

Van Zwieten urges residents to start registering for the race. People who wish to help out with resources on the day of the race should contact the chairperson.
