Runners take over Randburg

RANDBURG - South African Pork Kwai Challenge heats up Randburg Sports Complex.

Randburg Sports Complex and surrounds were abuzz with runners on 11 May, all set to compete in the annual South African Pork Kwai Challenge.

Hosted by the Randburg Harriers, roughly 6000 entrants participated in the day’s events which included a 21km, 10km, and 5km run/walk for men and women of all ages. The men’s 21km race was won by Frik Guys, while Cornelia Joubert won the women’s 21km category.

The 5km women’s race was, surprisingly, won by nine-year-old Simone Burger.

The races were followed by an Inter Club Braai competition sponsored by Eskort. Clubs were judged by a team of celebrity judges, including road-running legends Nick Bester and Bruce Fordyce, 7de Laan actors – Anelisa Phewa (Sifiso), Corne Crous (Kim), Heino Schmitt (Altus), Hildegardt Whites (Bonita) – as well as Bongi (SA Idols finalist) and a professional chef.
