Local pupil rewarded for national swimming success

RANDPARK RIDGE - Swimmer Hylton Collinson represents Rand Park High School at national level.

Rand Park High School pupil Hylton Collinson received an honours award for swimming at the school’s colours assembly.

The award was the highest accolade presented to a pupil at the school for a sports achievement. Collinson received the award because of his success at national level and for his personal commitment to the sport.

Collinson’s ambition to become a professional swimmer began at the age of 10, when he obtained provincial Gauteng colours and represented Central Gauteng Aquatics at various national events.

He swam the South African Level 3 Regional Age Group Swimming Championship in Cape Town, where he ranked third for 200m breast stroke and placed third overall. Collinson also qualified for the South African Swimming championships held in Durban where he achieved best results for the 200m breast stroke.

Rand Park High’s swimming programme head coach, Lauren Shearing said, “Swimming is a demanding sporting discipline and we have many dedicated children such as Collinson, who demonstrate outstanding commitment to the school and the sport by attending training sessions in the mornings and the afternoons.

“Striving to exceed their best swimming times and representing Rand Park High School in a respectful and dedicated manner is what we encourage.”

At the assembly Collinson had a few words of inspiration to share with his fellow pupils, “Don’t stop believing in yourself. Always work hard to improve yourself and your swimming times and you will do well.”
