Rehabilitation facility is due for upgrade

KYA SAND - Ward 101 helps the community of Kya Sand, creating employment the community to better itself.

Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau has shared his resources with Kya Sand informal settlement, giving them a chance to better their community.

“Bittkau and Social Development are creating a Capex Programme, bringing in Ward 98 to help them as a means to create employment. “The Golden Harvest drug and rehabilitation in his ward is expanding the facility.

“I am glad that Bittkau reached out to our community because a lot of the people in the Kya Sand informal settlement are unemployed,” said Ward 98 councillor, Matome Mafukwane.

Mafukwane believes that so many residents would benefit from this project and is grateful to have had his ward chosen.

According to Joselyne Davids of Johannesburg Development Agency, the drug and rehabilitation facility will be for everyone despite where you come from.

“We hope this will provide work for the community and as a result contribute to improving the community,” said Davids.

She explained to the Kya Sand community earlier in April what the rebuilt facility will look like, and how the community can be involved.

Nomi Muthialu and Associates (NMA) Effective Social Strategists project manager, Mamokete Matjomane said, “The drug and rehabilitation centre is for children between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age.

“The centre will be a place for them to recover from drugs. And we hope that the community will come on board to help.”

Reconstruction of the centre will begin in June. The Social Development department will proceed with construction once the applicable people with the required skills have been placed in their positions.
