Substation now a toilet

BROMHOF – Another unpleasant problem faces City Power.

Residents allege that a substation next to Tin Road in Bromhof, is being used by people as a toilet.

“People drink and sleep behind the substation,” said resident Dorothy Sehmarr. “They use it as a toilet. It stinks and you can see faeces behind it.”

Her husband Ingolf Sehmarr concurred, “I have seen people sleep there and it stinks.”

There is a wall which separates the substation from the couple’s residence and they planted tall trees on their side of the wall to keep the people who sleep behind the substation from peeping over the wall, they said. The couple say they were victims of a house robbery and Dorothy’s jewellery was stolen. They suspect that people sleeping behind the substation might have been the culprits.

“I phoned City Power to come and clean the substation,” said Dorothy.

“They said subcontractors will help if I phone the number of the Randburg depot. But when I called them, there was no answer.”

She also said when she tried calling Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau, he also did not answer his phone.

City Power spokesperson Sol Masolo did not respond by the time of publication.

Questions were also sent to Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau, and the Randburg Sun will follow this story as it develops.
